About Nolbert
Nolbert Chavez is a proud Colorado native and University of Colorado Denver alumnus, running to serve on the CU Board of Regents in Congressional District 7. If elected, Nolbert will follow in the footsteps of an incredible leader, Dr. Irene Griego, who served as the first Latina Chair of the Board of Regents in 2017.
Professionally, Nolbert serves as the Chief of External Initiatives and Executive Director of CityCenter at CU Denver. CityCenter serves as the "front door” both literally and figuratively for the campus. It is where our faculty expertise and student ingenuity are matched with civic, non-profit and business leaders looking for fresh ideas and new approaches.
Mr. Chavez has taught, along with his wife Judy Montero, as adjunct faculty in the School of Public Affairs and he regularly lectures on campus and is considered an expert in the state policy process.
In addition, Nolbert is a founding donor of the Kathreen Cheever Memorial Scholarship endowment named after the late Director of the Center for New Directions at the CU Denver College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Together with his wife Judy, they are proud parents of a CU Denver Sophomore, Hope.
Prior to his work at CU Denver, Nolbert served as a Democrat in the State legislature from 1995-2002, and is especially proud of having earned a 100% voting record on both Colorado Education Association and Labor issues.
Nolbert received his Masters in Political Science and Public Policy from CU Denver, and is currently enrolled in the Doctorate in Education and Human Development program also at CU Denver.
Nolbert’s entire family have been active Democrats for more than 30 years in both Denver and Jefferson county.
Nolbert is married to Judy Montero and together they live in Belmar in the same building as his parents. In his spare time Nolbert can be found riding his 1977 “Shovelhead” Harley Davidson that belonged to his father-in-law for 32 years.
